The University of Maryland Center for Health Equity (CHE) began its work in earnest this fall with the arrival of Dr. Stephen Thomas, Professor of Health Services Administration, as center director. He is joined by Dr.Sandra Quinn, Associate Dean for Public Health Initiativesand Professor of Family Science as senior associate director along with Dr. James Butler, Dr. Craig Fryer, and Dr. Mary Garza, all Assistant Professors in Behavioral and Community Health and associate directors in the new center. Together they represent the largest cluster hire in the history of the University of Maryland, College Park.

It's where prevention and early detection of diseases such as diabetes and HIV/AIDS not only save lives, but also save the state hundreds of millions of dollars in health-care costs. The establishment of the Center for Health Equity at the University of Maryland, College Park demonstrates the School of Public Health's commitment to this vital work.

From Baltimore and Points North
  • Take I-95 South to Washington, D.C.'s Capital Beltway (I-495).
  • Take Exit 27 and then follow signs to Exit 25 (U.S. 1 South toward College Park).
  • Proceed approximately two miles south on U.S. Route 1.
  • Turn right onto Campus Drive (main entrance to campus).

From Virginia and Points South

  • Take I-95 North to Washington, D.C.'s Capital Beltway (I-495).
  • Continue North on I-95/I-495 toward Baltimore.
  • Take Exit 25 (U.S. 1 South toward College Park).
  • Proceed approximately two miles south on U.S. Route 1.
  • Turn right onto Campus Drive (main entrance to campus).
     

From Virginia and Points West

  • Take I-66 East or I-270 South to Washington, D.C.'s Capital Beltway (I-495).
  • Go East on I-495 toward Baltimore/Silver Spring.
  • Take Exit 25 (U.S. 1 South toward College Park).
  • Proceed approximately two miles south on U.S. Route 1.
  • Turn right onto Campus Drive (main entrance to campus).
     

From Annapolis and Points East

  • Take U.S. 50 to Washington, D.C.'s Capital Beltway (I-495).
  • Go North on I-95/I-495 toward Baltimore.
  • Take Exit 25 (U.S. 1 South toward College Park).
  • Proceed approximately two miles south on U.S. Route 1.
  • Turn right onto Campus Drive (main entrance to campus).

From Washington, D.C. (Northwest/Southwest)

  • Take 16th St. North which becomes Georgia Ave. North at Maryland/D.C. line.
  • Go East on I-495 toward Baltimore.
  • Take Exit 25 (U.S. 1 South toward College Park).
  • Proceed approximately two miles south on U.S. Route 1.
  • Turn right onto Campus Drive (main entrance to campus).
     

From Washington, D.C. (Northeast/Southeast)

  • Take Rhode Island Ave. (U.S. 1 North) which becomes Baltimore Ave. North at Maryland/D.C. line.
  • Proceed through the city of College Park.
  • Turn left onto Campus Drive (main entrance to campus).

Directions to School of Public Health, Building #255

  • After turning onto Campus Drive, proceed to the roundabout with the large "M".
  • Turn right onto Regents Drive.
  • At the 2nd stop sign, turn left onto Farm Drive.
  • Turn right onto Valley Drive and continue to the SPH Building (#255).

Parking for SPH Bldg, #255

Metered parking is available in lots MM2, PP2, as indicated on the color-coded map (PDF).
More metered parking is available in front of the School of Public Health building.
Visitors may also park for free in Lot PP2 (next to the SPH Building and in front of the Comcast Center) after 4:00PM weekdays and on weekends without a permit.
The Department of Transportation services also provides a generalized visitor parking map (PDF).

Public Transportation

From Washington, DC, visitors can take the Metro Green Line to College Park and then the free University of Maryland shuttle bus to the campus on weekdays during the fall and spring semesters.
