How to Register for 2024

Registration is free for all University System of Maryland students, staff, faculty, and community partners who would like to attend.

University System of Maryland undergraduate and graduate students are invited to submit posters presenting their public health-related research and practice activities.

UMD SPH students are invited to submit abstracts to present Lightning Round Talks in the 3MT (3-minute thesis) competition style.

Deadlines

To be considered for judging and competition for awards, UMD SPH student abstracts for poster and lightning round talk submissions must be submitted by March 15, 2024. In partnership with the University Libraries, a limited number of SPH students will have their posters printed for FREE on a first-come, first-served basis (see details on Student Resources below).

The final deadline for all other submissions is April 1, 2024.

Awards and Judging

Students from the University of Maryland School of Public Health may submit one poster to be presented and included for judging in the awards competition. To be eligible, students must be standing at their poster to present to judges between 1:30 - 2:30 PM. Competition for poster awards is limited to posters that include an SPH student as co-author and presenter.

The Delta Omega Gamma Zeta Chapter and UMD Libraries are sponsoring this year’s Public Health Research & Practice Day (PHR&P) student poster. Delta Omega members, faculty members, and community partners are invited to serve as poster judges from 1:30-2:30 PM. Register your interest by March 15, 2024 by completing this form.

The School of Public Health is offering PHR&P presenters the option to upload (publish) their PHR&P poster to the University Libraries Digital Repository at the University of Maryland (DRUM).

A service of the University of Maryland University Libraries, DRUM collects, preserves, and provides public access to the scholarly output of the university. Faculty and student researchers can upload research products for rapid dissemination, global visibility and impact, and long-term preservation.

Students who present their approved work will receive detailed information after the event.

Eligibility

  • The first 60 SPH students (40 undergraduate, 20 graduate) to submit their public health focused abstract and receive notification of approval for PHRAP Day by the March 15 deadline will be eligible for free poster printing.
  • Students must register for the event before they can submit a poster abstract.

Notification

  • Students will receive an email with instructions for poster printing once their poster submission is approved.
  • The approval process will take up to two weeks after the March 15 deadline.
  • Eligible students will have until April 1, 2024 to have their posters printed at McKeldin Library.

To help prepare SPH students to submit abstracts and prepare their poster and lightning round presentations for the SPH Public Health Research & Practice Day (PHR&P) on April 4, 2024, the Office of Graduate Student Services will hold a series of How-to Effectively Present your Research & Practice virtual workshops. We encourage all students to attend these workshops to hone their presentation skills. These workshops are open to everyone. More information on PHR&P day will be posted on the SPH website shortly. Let me know if you have any questions or ideas for additional workshops to help prepare students for this event.
